21st Annual Washington, D.C., Tour of Solar Homes & Buildings
Scott Sklar, a resident of Ashton Heights, will open his zero-energy home this coming Sunday as part of the 21st Annual Washington, D.C., Tour of Solar Homes & Buildings. He is at 706 North Ivy Street, Arlington, VA 22201 - one block from the intersection of 10th Street and Wilson Blvd, and two blocks from the Clarendon Metro (Orange Line).
The tour of solar homes and buildings includes more than 55 Solar-Powered Homes & Buildings in the Washington DC and Northern, Virginia area that are open this weekend (October 1-2) from 11 AM to 5 PM. You can download a guide to the tour from their website.
The tour highlights a variety of design, technology and sustainable living concepts. Homes and buildings on the tour contain a mixture of solar passive and solar-powered designs, including:
- Photovoltaic systems
- Solar hot water systems
- Radiant heat
- Energy-efficient appliances
- Energy-saving building construction techniques
Many homeowners also practice energy and water conservation measures, recycle and compost, and drive fuel-efficient or alternative energy vehicles.
