Scott Sklar, AHCA President, called the meeting to order at approximately 7:39 PM. He gave out kudos to the food committee for our spread.
There have been complaints about noise at the Community House on Jackson St. – Scott talked with the manager about this and it seems to have cleared up.
There have also been complaints about traffic backups on 10th Street due to construction at the 10th Street Flats. Scott talked with Clark Construction Company about this and this has also been fixed.
He talked with the Ombudsman for the Arlington County Board regarding concerns about transparency on the subject of county codes and permits.
Jim Feaster – Member-at-Large brought up the Arlington Community Engagement Forum on Aging to be held March 20, 2017 from 9:30 am to 12 noon at the Central Library.
Arlington County Police, Officer Patrick Smithgall, gave us two handouts reflecting an analysis of crime in Arlington from 2013 up to the present and a map. In our specific area, crime has declined significantly.
Most of our crime is near the metro stations.
Because of incidents around schools recently with students, the police has increased their presence around schools.
There was a question about the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Arlington County and what role our police are taking. Nothing has changed. If an immigrant breaks a county law, they will face due process for any crime they have committed. Our police are not, however, looking for immigration law violators. If ICE representatives are in the county looking for people who may be in violation of the immigrant laws, our county police will help ensure the safety of the ICE representatives while doing their job in our county.
There was a concern expressed about an Arlington County bike trail between 10th Street and Pershing Drive, being used by people in golf carts who service a nearby apartment complex. Officer Smithgall will talk with representatives at this complex about not doing this anymore.
Marietta Gelfort, Car-Sharing Analyst for the Arlington County Department of Environmental Services gave a presentation about car-sharing in Arlington.
There is a new ordinance that ensures a competitive procurement of car-share services and establishing permits, fees and enforcement procedures for authorized car-share vehicles.
Based on this ordinance, the County Manager is authorized to establish two programs: the Reserved-space car-share and the Free-floating car-share program. Zip Car and Enterprise are in the Reserved-space program and Car2Go is in the Free-floating program.
She is asking Arlington residents to provide feedback on potential placement of reserved-space car-share parking stations in Arlington. She is also looking for residents to suggest locations for these parking stations and to also comment on proposed locations. To provide input please go to https:transportation.arlingtonva.us and click on the car-share tab.
David Hunter, Deputy Zoning Administrator, Department of Community Planning, Housing and Development, Zoning Division for Arlington County gave a presentation about zoning in Arlington County.
Arlington is #1 in our country for transportation-driven zoning.
