Thanks for Coming to the Ashton Heights Old-Fashioned Picnic
It was wonderful to see over 200 neighbors and friends at the Ashton Heights 90th Anniversary Old-Fashioned Neighborhood Picnic. We certainly lucked out with the weather -- I hope everyone had a great time!
We could not have organized this without the dozens and dozens of hardworking and cheerful volunteers who helped with everything from planning to distributing flyers to cleaning up. First of all, a big thanks to Amy Cody who orchestrated the entire event and kept everything organized into addition to putting in countless hours on the picnic. Other folks to thank include:
- Henry Brown and Meg & Bill Rice who helped with planning, door prizes and were a popcorn team extraordinaire.
- Ann Felker and Kim Ross kept children smiling and cheering each other on with fun, old-fashioned games and prizes.
- Julia Tanner painted butterflies and other requests on children's faces all picnic long.
- Did you SEE the lemonade stand that Susan, Vinh, Mattie & Lucy Nguyen built? W-O-W! And the cold lemonade was delicious, too.
- Jim Terpstra put together a terrific Neighborhood History table and fielded questions all picnic long.
- Michelle Horgan enlisted her dad, a talented musician, to play at the picnic and created all the signage for picnic.
- Betsey Lyon helped with planning and served as the event photographer.
- Marjorie Varner arranged for the fun period actors AND SHE BROUGHT THE BOY SCOUTS! Scoutmaster Rob Stefan and members of Troop 104 made a huge contribution to the picnic, setting up a Boy Scout booth, providing a color guard, and volunteering throughout the picnic.
- Rita & Jim O'Brien helped with planning, door prizes and provided ice water. They were the first volunteers to arrive and the last to leave.
- Robb Tanner was an early champion for organizing a neighborhood picnic. He helped with planning and was a great emcee.
